Philodendron hederaceum ‘Cream Splash’ is a beautifully variegated heart-leaf Philodendron prized for its soft, pastel-toned foliage and easy-going tropical elegance. A naturally occurring sport of Philodendron hederaceum ‘Brasil’, this cultivar showcases a lighter, more delicate palette — perfect for collectors who appreciate subtle colour variation and graceful trailing growth.

The leaves are classic heart shapes but feature creamy yellow to pale lime centres with soft green edges, sometimes accented by hints of mint or silver. New leaves emerge with a pinkish hue before settling into their mature variegation. Its trailing or climbing vines create a cascading, luminous effect that brightens any interior space.

Compact, resilient, and endlessly charming, Philodendron ‘Cream Splash’ brings a fresh, airy aesthetic to tropical plant collections — a softer, more refined sibling of the bolder ‘Brasil’.

Philodendron hederaceum ‘Cream Splash’ – Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light. The cream variegation shows best with ample brightness, though it will tolerate moderate shade. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch the lighter leaf areas, and very low light, which may cause variegation to fade.

Watering

Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm feels dry to the touch. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while underwatering may cause drooping or crisped leaf edges. Reduce watering slightly during the cooler months.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: Prefers warm, stable conditions between 18–28 °C; avoid temperatures below 15 °C.

  • Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity (50–70%). Occasional misting or a nearby humidifier will encourage lush, healthy growth.

Soil and Potting

Use a well-draining, airy aroid mix made from equal parts compost, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir. The roots prefer consistent moisture and oxygen flow. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh nutrients and allow for continued growth.

Feeding

Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced fertiliser. Avoid over-fertilising, which can discolour the variegation. Pause feeding in autumn and winter when growth slows.

Pruning and Maintenance

Trim leggy vines or yellowing leaves to maintain a neat, full appearance. Wipe leaves gently with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and enhance their creamy sheen. Rotate the plant regularly to ensure balanced light exposure.

Growth and Maturity

A fast-growing, vining Philodendron, ‘Cream Splash’ can trail 1–2 m indoors when given room to cascade or climb. Mature vines produce larger leaves with increasingly vivid variegation. It can be trained up a moss pole for upright form or left to trail freely for a soft, cascading look.

Common Issues

  • Yellow leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.

  • Pale or re-greening leaves: Low light levels.

  • Brown edges: Low humidity or inconsistent watering.

  • Pests: Occasionally aphids or thrips; treat promptly with neem oil or insecticidal soap.

Background and Benefits

Philodendron hederaceum originates from Central and South American rainforests, where it grows as an epiphytic vine in filtered light and humid air. The ‘Cream Splash’ cultivar is a naturally occurring mutation developed for its softly variegated foliage and pastel tones, offering a more delicate alternative to ‘Brasil’.

Like all Philodendrons, it’s an excellent air-purifying plant, helping remove toxins such as formaldehyde and improving indoor air quality. Its forgiving nature makes it perfect for both beginner growers and experienced collectors looking for a subtle, elegant statement piece.

Styling Tip

Display Philodendron ‘Cream Splash’ in a hanging planter, tall shelf, or on a moss pole, allowing its pastel leaves to cascade naturally or climb gracefully. A SWEET AND LOVELY JOURNEY
Format: Kindle
These characters were so much fun. The story flowed beautifully with a strong love and a sweet little boy, who sometimes was a holy terror. My only child was a boy and I could relate to adding another “mom” to our family. That little boy is now, himself, a grandfather (Poppy) to three sweet kids.

Heartwarming and adorable
Format: Kindle
It's not often that I cry happy tears but damnit this book made me well up at the end. I adored every single word of this story. It was just adorable and both women are so so sweet and while it wasn't angst free none of the angst came from miscommunication or anything cliche. This was just a great time from start to finish. I lost sleep to read and I have no regrets.

A Captivating Romance of Love, Growth, and Second Chances
Format: Kindle
Erin Corcoran, a single mom still reeling from her divorce, hires a babysitter for the summer, never expecting to fall for her. Blair Breckenridge, fresh out of college and unsure of her future, takes the job to appease her parents but quickly finds herself drawn to Erin and her son. As their connection deepens, Erin fears Blair’s impulsive nature, while Blair must prove she’s ready for the responsibilities of love and family. Fallen Together by Erica Lee is a beautifully crafted romance that balances emotional depth with an engaging storyline. The novel delivers well-developed characters who experience genuine growth, making for an authentic and compelling read. Erin is a woman scarred by abandonment, hesitant to trust again, while Blair, despite her initial uncertainty about life, displays remarkable maturity in the way she cares for both Erin and her son, Nolan. Their dynamic is both tender and complex, as Blair proves she is more than just a carefree young woman, she is someone capable of deep love and responsibility. Nolan himself is a delightful mix of chaos and charm, adding a layer of realism and heart to the story. The novel’s strength lies in its character development and pacing. Both protagonists evolve naturally, making choices that feel true to who they are while ultimately prioritizing what matters most to them. The chemistry between Erin and Blair is undeniable, and their journey is filled with emotional nuance, humor, and warmth. With excellent plot development and a steady narrative flow, Fallen Together is a captivating read that holds engagement from start to finish. Erica Lee has crafted a romance that is not only passionate but also deeply satisfying in its exploration of trust, love, and the courage to embrace the unexpected.

A delightfully wholesome romance
Format: Kindle
This book is the perfect example of why I love Erica Lee's writing so much. She has an amazing talent for depicting love and relationships in such a wholesome and compassionate light, and it makes her books a delight to read and this is no exception. It doesn't hurt that she manages to balance humor, spice, and snark in a way that has me consistently falling in love with her characters. I seriously can't recommend this book enough. I had to force myself to put it down at 1 AM and the lost sleep was absolutely worth it.
