Reptisun UVB/LED is Now Gen 2,  Boasting 4 More UVA Emitters for Full D3 Regulation

Highlights:

  • The most energy-efficient way to provide UVB
  • Made with high-precision Japanese LEDs, the best in the world
  • Combines UVB, UVA, and full visible spectrum lighting
  • Gen 2 Version adds more UVA for properly balanced lighting spectrum
  • UVB-transmitting quartz glass cover for added protection and durability

In 1993, Zoo Med developed the 1st UVB lamp for reptiles; this changed the way all zoos, herpetologists, and hobbyists keep reptiles in captivity. They’re still evolving their product line as more efficient and eco-conscious lighting is made available, and their ReptiSun® UVB/LED is their boldest and most advanced UVB lighting option yet. It provides your reptile with crisp white light, UVB, and UVA all in one lamp, and lets you enjoy the energy savings that cutting-edge LED lighting delivers. Their state-of-the-art Japanese-made UVB diodes are protected by a high-quality UVB-transmitting quartz glass cover with durability and longevity in mind.

We are now selling the 2nd generation of the Zoo Med UVB/LED lamp which has even more advanced features such as 4 additional UVA chips and more visible LED chips.

Zoo Med recommends the Naturalistic Terrarium Hood-12" (LF-50) or the Naturalistic Terrarium Hood-18" (LF-55)

UVB

UVB wavelengths along with proper temperature (usually additional heat), are responsible for vitamin D3 production in reptiles. However, only some UVB wavelengths (from 290-315 nm) help synthesize Vitamin D3. The Reptisun® UVB/LED bulb emits UVB wavelengths from 295 nm to 320 nm.

UVA

UVA is part of reptile vision, so without it, they’re colorblind! A portion of UVA wavelengths (from 320nm-335nm) also help regulate Vitamin D3 production and let reptiles’ bodies know when they’ve created enough. The Reptisun® UVB/LED bulb emits UVA wavelengths from 320nm-335nm and from 355nm-395nm.

VISIBLE LIGHT

Visible light is critical to reptiles as it is for humans. The amount of visible light a bulb emits is measured on a temperature scale corresponding to the warmth of the light relative to color. A bulb emitting light between 5,000 and 7,000 Kelvin most closely resembles the sun. The Reptisun® UVB/LED has a color temperature of 6,500 Kelvin.

INFRARED

The infrared spectrum provides heat for reptiles. This is critical for Vitamin D3 production and for maintaining body temperature (since reptiles are ectothermic). With the combination of the Reptisun® UVB/LED with a Basking Spot Lamp, you will achieve a more natural visible light with infrared for efficient deep heating.

The Dog LOVES IT!
I bought this for my ex-wife's Pitbull. He is an aggressive chewer and usually destroys any toy I buy him. But not this one! The ball is small enough and pliable that it gives when he chomps on it. He loves this ball and seems to be his favorite toy. Thank you for making a product that he likes and can't destroy!

My Golden Retriever’s favorite
We’ve owned lots of toys and balls. This specific version (in blue) has been her absolute favorite. She’s about 72lbs and chews on this thing regularly with no visible damage. We actually own about 6 of them because they have a tendency to go missing underneath furniture and in the yard. We have two of the orange colored ones but she doesn’t like those nearly as much which I assume is because the blue is easier to see in the grass. Other than that…They bounce really well and also whistle a little when you throw them hard enough. I hope they never stop making these.

doesn't whistle as loud as other chuckit balls I've seen, but a good ball.
makes some noise, but I've seen (and played with) others at the dog park that whistle much louder than the 1 I got. all Chuckit balls... so, just this one I'm betting. but it flys good and the dog loves to chase it. he chews it a fair bit as well and the ball has not taken much damage from him (lab mix) or others that have had a go at it. I'll likely buy another at some point ... just wish it was a little louder when flying.

Blue ball, my dog likes blue.
Just a ball right? Evidently not! My dog won’t chase an orange chuck it ball or the glow in the dark ball- only the blue one 🤷🏼‍♀️
