Monotropa uniflora is a parasite and its host is the fungus that colonizes the root systems of trees. The ghost plant grows to under a foot high and its color is white and translucent. Pink tints and black flecks may also be present. This is a flowering plant with no chlorophyll. It is not a fungus. In fact it is in the blueberry family. USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 8
