We sell the Bocking #4 strain of Russian comfrey (Symphytum peregrinum) in either 10 or 20 root cuttings per order.

We select the Bocking #4 strain because it contains the highest protein content with the highest biomass yield, making it an important source of protein for livestock.  It is also the most palatable for animals as other strains can be too bitter.

The Bocking #4 strain also has the highest allantoin content, which is the component responsible for the immense skin and bone healing properties.  It is perennial and non-invasive.  It does not spread by seed but it can be propagated by root cuttings.

**Nutrient-Rich**: Russian comfrey is known for its high nutrient content, particularly in potassium, calcium, and other minerals. Russian comfrey is rich in essential nutrients, including proteins, vitamins (such as B vitamins and vitamin C).  These nutrients contribute to better overall health and growth in livestock.

**Improved Digestion**: The fibrous nature of comfrey can aid in digestion, promoting gut health in animals. This is particularly beneficial for ruminants like cattle and sheep, as it may help maintain a healthy digestive system.

**Enhanced Milk Production**: Feeding comfrey to dairy animals could lead to increased milk yield. The nutrient-rich composition of comfrey can support lactation and improve the quality of milk produced.

**Healthy Growth and Development**: Young livestock, such as calves and lambs, can benefit from the growth-promoting properties of comfrey. The plant's high nutrient content supports muscle and bone development, contributing to healthier, more robust animals.

**Cost-Effective Feed Source**: Comfrey can be grown easily and in various conditions, providing a sustainable and cost-effective source of nutrition for farmers. This can reduce reliance on commercial feeds, which may be more expensive and less sustainable.

**Palatability**: Many animals find comfrey palatable, making it an attractive feed option. This can encourage better feed intake, ensuring livestock receive the nutrition they need.

**Sustainable Farming Practices**: Incorporating comfrey into livestock diets aligns with sustainable agricultural practices. By growing comfrey on-site, farmers can reduce feed transport costs and promote biodiversity in their farming systems.

**Healing Properties**:  The plant contains allantoin, a compound thought to aid in cell regeneration and repair. This makes it beneficial for treating wounds, bruises, and fractures.

**Soil Improvement**: Russian comfrey's deep roots can help improve soil structure and prevent erosion. It is often used as a dynamic accumulator, drawing up nutrients from deep in the soil, which can then be returned to the surface when the leaves are cut and used as mulch or compost.

**Pest Resistance**: The strong growth and lush foliage of Russian comfrey can act as a natural deterrent against some pests, providing a more sustainable approach to pest management in gardens.

**Ecological Benefits**: The presence of comfrey in a garden or farm can enhance biodiversity, providing habitat for various beneficial insects and contributing to a more balanced ecosystem.

**Versatility**: Russian comfrey can be used in various ways, including as a poultice or salve. Its versatility makes it a valuable plant in both medicinal and agricultural contexts.

**Sustainability**: Comfrey can grow in a variety of conditions and is relatively easy to cultivate.  This allows comfrey to be grown for its benefits without depleting natural resources.

This book came in time for my grandson's birthday. It is FANTASTIC! It is large, colorful and has gatefold pages (which I didn't realize). He loves it and we love reading it to him.

A very nice book! Classic Umezu
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
Might have a small crease or two but feels great to hold and the spine art was a pleasant surprise! And for being from the 60s, the illustrations have a crisp quality. Volume 1 ends on a Part 1 so you’ll have to wait until this December for Volume 2 if you want to finish the last story. In all, I am happy with this book.
