The species Cordyline australis is native to New Zealand, and this cultivar originated at Torbay Palm Farm in Cornwall, England, later receiving the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit for reliability in gardens. It grows best in full sun to light shade in well-drained soil and is drought tolerant once established, though young plants benefit from regular watering.
