First year plants form a low basal rosette of leaves, and flower and set seed in their second year. The flowers come out very early, providing important food for pollinators, notable syrphid flies whose larvae eat aphids. When flowering they stand about 4-5 feet tall.

Money plant grows well in part shade or full sun, making it an excellent multi-purpose vegetable for the forest garden. Money plant is not picky about soil. It is drought tolerant, and will self seed if allowed.
