Lithops 'Living Stones' are stemless succulents from South Africa that belong to the Aizoaceae (ice plant) family, and there are about 40 species. Native to southern Africa, they prefer a warm, dry, and sunny environment. They grow almost entirely underground in nature, with only a pair of kidney-shaped, succulent, flat-topped leaves visible from above.

It is a perennial succulent with almost no stems or globular shape, and it has variegated leaves and a hard epidermis with dark dendritic indentations or patterned spots on the top. The flowers are solitary(daisy-like) and it has a flowering stem that is about an inch long. They bloom from summer to mid-autumn. The unique shape and color of the flowers have led many enthusiasts to collect and cultivate the plant, which has a high ornamental value.

Care Tips

Light: Living stones need a lot of light to grow, so it is recommended that they be kept in a well-lit area. However, the light in summer is very strong and harmful to the plant, so in the process of breeding, you also need to do a good job of shading measures in summer, the rest of the season should ensure sufficient sunlight.

Water: In spring, its soil usually dries up in three days, but to stimulate its growth, it is best to water once a week. In summer, when it is dormant, it needs watering once a month. In autumn, when it has just awakened from its dormant state, it needs more watering, about once every three or four days. In winter, there is no fixed time for watering, just water when it is dry.

Soil: It is important to choose soil that is loose, fertile and well permeable. The purpose of the soil change is to ensure that the plant is well supplied with soil nutrients and to avoid the damage caused by soil caking to the plant.

Potting: It is recommended to use ceramic pots. Ceramic pots have a certain degree of permeability. Clay pots lose water too quickly, plastic pots tend to retain water for too long and permeability is poor.

Temperature: Living Stones like a warm environment. The most suitable temperature for Living Stones is between 59-77°F (15-25℃), so it is also very crucial to control the temperature of the plant. In the process of daily maintenance, we only need to do a good job of cooling in summer and keeping warm in winter, to ensure that the maximum temperature does not exceed 86°F (30 ℃) in summer and not less than 50°F (10 ℃) in winter.

Humidity: Living Stones grow well in average household humidity levels when grown indoors. Does not like too much humidity. Normal household humidity is good for this plant.

    Care Instructions

Please visit our Succulent Care info page for more details.

To ensure the health of succulents, it is important to plant them in porous, well-draining soil. Succulents require little watering, but don't like to sit in wet soil. To create an adequate cactus mix, simply add pumice, perlite, or grit to cactus soil to provide the proper drainage.

Make sure to leave drought periods between waterings to prevent the plant from water-logging.

      Very durable!
      Color: Teal
My big guy (American Staffordshire) loves these kind of toys! I love them because he can't tear them apart. The only thing is when he chews on them they become like a cactus.

      Heavy, long lasting chew
      Color: Teal
This dog chew is the best yet for our very aggressive chewer. The material will get roughed up somewhat but so far no pieces have broken off. Our 25lb cockapoo loves it. I use a scissors to remove some sharp edges when needed. Beware this alligator is heavy but she carries it around regardless.

I adopted a raptor instead of a puppy
      Color: Teal
He's a chewer. Nothing is safe from his relentless jaws. I have bought him other things to chew which he ignored, preferring rolls of duct tape, empty flower pots and cardboard boxes. But this gator. Well.... NOt only did he love it BUT he opened the bag himself, got the toy out of the box it came in and then carried it proudly into the house. He has chewed the living life out of it so I ordered him another. Cardboard boxes in my house are breathing sighs of relief.
