Germination
Ochna serrulata can be propagated from seeds with some care. To begin, scarify the seeds by gently nicking or scratching the hard seed coat to aid water absorption. Soak the scarified seeds in warm water for 24 to 48 hours, which can further soften the seed coat. After this treatment, plant the seeds in a well-draining seed starting mix, covering them with a light layer of soil, and keep them consistently moist but not waterlogged. Place the seed tray or pots in a warm location with indirect sunlight, ideally around 70-75°F (21-24°C). Germination can be somewhat slow and sporadic, taking several weeks to a few months. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, they can be transplanted into individual pots or into the garden.
