Are you looking for a show-stopping addition to your indoor and outdoor succulent collection? Look no further than the magnificent Tiger Aloe, scientifically known as Aloe variegata (reclassified as Gonialoe variegata), which is a vibrant and delightful succulent that will surely captivate any plant lover's heart. This enchanting aloe plant boasts short, longitudinally-arranged white spots on both upper and lower surfaces that align in horizontal bands hence earning it the name tiger aloe or moniker Partridge Breasted Aloe. It is sometimes mistakenly referred to as cape aloe, but the real cape aloe is Aloe ferox.

Belonging to the Asphodelaceae family, it can grow up to 24 inches tall and 12 inches wide. This aloe variegata is a slow-growing plant and can take several years to reach its full size.

In its natural habitat, South Africa and Namibia, the blooming season for this succulent is from July to September, but indoors, the bloom season may begin in the winter and last through the spring. The Orange, salmon pink flowers that dangle from the stem in multiple directions emit a light and sweet fragrance.

Tiger aloe (Gonialoe variegata) is mildly toxic to pets. To propagate your Tiger aloe Variegata, remove the offsets that appear around the base of the parent plant with a sharp, clean knife or razor. When you have a healthy Partridge breast Aloe plant, these small rosettes will grow.

Watering Needs

When watering these South African Aloes, it's important to find the right balance. This tiger aloe, just like the Aloe vera plant, prefers to be slightly underwatered rather than overwatered. It is a drought-tolerant succulent and stores water in its fleshy leaves, so it can withstand periods of dryness.

To meet the watering needs of the Tiger Aloe, it's best to allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Before watering, make sure the top inch of the soil is completely dry. When you do water your tiger aloe plant, make sure to water thoroughly, allowing the water to soak through the soil and drain out of the bottom of the pot.

During the growing season, which is typically spring and summer, you can water the Tiger Aloe more frequently. However, during the dormant period in fall and winter, you should reduce the frequency of watering. Remember, it's always better to underwater than overwater this Aloe variegata to prevent root rot.

If the leaves start to look shriveled or feel soft, it's a sign that your aloe plant needs water. On the other hand, if the leaves become mushy or turn yellow, it could be a sign of overwatering.

Light Requirements

Like many succulents, the tiger aloe thrives in partial shade, though full sun may cause your plant to turn reddish-brown, adding to its vibrant beauty.

If you are growing tiger aloe indoors, place your tiger aloe near a window that receives bright, filtered sunlight. East-facing or south-facing windows are usually ideal. If you don't have a window that provides enough light, you can also use artificial grow lights to supplement the natural light.

Keep an eye on this variegated tiger aloe plant and observe how it responds to light conditions. If the leaves start to stretch or become pale, it may be an indication that it is not getting enough light. On the other hand, if the leaves turn brown or develop sunburn spots, they may be receiving too much direct sunlight.

Remember to rotate the plant occasionally to ensure even exposure to light on all sides. This will help prevent your Aloe variegata from leaning towards the light source and promote balanced growth.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

When it comes to the optimal soil and fertilizer needs of the Tiger Aloe, it's important to provide a well-drained potting soil surface specifically formulated for succulents. Tiger aloe grows abundantly on rocky outcrops in its natural habitat. So, they're not picky about soil, except that they need good drainage. Instead, make or buy a well-draining soil, or ideally, use our specialized succulent potting mix that contains 5 natural substrates and mycorrhizae to promote the development of a strong root system that helps your succulent to thrive.

Tiger aloe does not require frequent feedings, but if you haven't made it a habit to do so, a mature plant that doesn't bloom might encourage flowering from one in the spring with a balanced natural fertilizer with an equal mix of NPK. However, be cautious not to over-fertilize, as this can lead to weak, leggy growth.

Remember, it's always better to err on the side of caution and under-fertilize rather than over-fertilize succulents. If you notice any signs of fertilizer burn, such as brown or scorched leaves, reduce the frequency or strength of the fertilizer.

Hardiness Zone & More

The Tiger Aloe is well-suited to warm and arid climates and is typically grown indoors in colder zones. It is generally recommended for hardiness zones 9-11. In terms of temperature, the Tiger Aloe prefers a range between 60°F and 80°F if grown outdoors. It can tolerate slightly cold temperatures but may struggle in extreme heat.

Native to dry conditions, this aloe plant tolerates hot temperatures and low humidity levels. It doesn't require high levels of humidity and can thrive in average indoor humidity levels, which are typically around 40-60%. However, it's important to avoid excessively dry air, which can cause the leaves to shrivel. If the air in your home is particularly dry, you can increase humidity by using a humidifier or placing a tray of water near the aloe plant.

Remember, it's always a good idea to monitor the temperature and humidity levels in your specific location and make adjustments as needed to create the best-growing conditions for your Tiger Aloe plants.

Plastic, but Well Performing Machine
Color: A-Silver
My household has been using the Casabrewa 5418 PRO multiple times a day for over a month now. It's function and directions are excellent. With some experimenting, it makes acceptable and delicious espresso. This is an entry model machine that does exactly what you want it to. It heats fast and produces espresso fast. However, for the price point the amount of plastic is a bit disappointing. The machine has the appearance of being stainless steel while being constructed almost entirely of plastic. If you want an entry level espresso machine and you don't mind the plastic, this is an excellent option.

Who cares if its plastic... let's not be silly

Why are people so obsessed with metal housing? Metal literally serves no purpose. It's just a cover. It won't make a better coffee with metal housing nor will it last longer. I personally don't care what it "feels" like to touch it, I don't even notice it. I make coffee with it, it's a tool. I don't touch it to "feel how nice it is". That's just weird. Anyway, what a great machine. To me instant heating is worth all the missing features of fancier machines combined. I've had it for several months now, and I have it dialed in. I make up to 5-6 lattes a day and I've made about a 1000 by now. Still working great. Not interested in upgrading.

Great Budget Espresso Machine That Performs Better Than Others Costing Much More
Color: A-Silver
I’ve been using the Casabrews 5418 Pro for a few months now and it’s been a solid addition to my kitchen. It looks sleek and feels well‑built for the price, and it heats up extremely fast — reaching brewing temperature in just a few seconds thanks to its FlashHeat™ system. The 20‑bar pump and built‑in pressure gauge give you good feedback while pulling shots, and the steam wand produces nicely textured milk for lattes and cappuccinos. The removable water tank is a nice touch and makes refilling easy. While it’s not perfect — the included portafilter and tamper feel a budget‑oriented and the pressurized baskets don’t deliver espresso as rich as you’d get from higher‑end machines — it’s a great performer for beginners or casual espresso drinkers. Upgrade the portafilter basket and tamper but for a more premium experience especially if using it daily. That said, the included accessories are perfectly fine for a casual user. Overall, this machine offers excellent value for the price. If you want a compact, easy‑to‑use espresso maker that consistently produces enjoyable drinks (especially milk‑based ones), this is a great choice. I am more than pleased with my purchase and you will be too. One thing that I learned and it’s the most significant piece of information I will pass along. You don’t need an espresso dark roast coffee for espresso. It’s your preferred roast, grind, and freshness that make the difference. Try your favorite roast in an espresso grind and enjoy!

Great buy, especially in its price range and perhaps even beyond
Color: A-Silver
Hope not to jinx it and have to change this review in six months but I'm extremely pleased with this machine. I've gone through two DeLonghis that lasted me each 4-5 years and I've liked them a lot, but both have eventually leaked and had quirks that were never ever answered/remedied by their customer service. I bought this Casabrews on spec, after looking through all sorts of alternatives, even hand models. I read through customer reviews, including the negative ones complaining about noise, its weight (or, rather lack of), claims over shoddy materials (its plastic components), alleged issues with its wand and basket, the quality of its shots, and so on. I was concerned about buying a product from a relatively new company with a short track record. But, OTOH, there were some very positive, persuasive reviews online. I'm from a coffee-producing nation and have more of it in my veins than blood so it's an absolute daily must-have that an increasingly leaking DeLonghi wasn't going to provide for long so I was facing an emergency. That this model was on sale at Amazon was a welcome incentive since, by the same token that I know what I like in coffee and scoff at the pretentious, opinionated coffee snobishness that too often characterizes conversations over it in the US, I've never been persuaded by the fancy-schmancy high-end, pocket-gouging machines on the market. While I've only had it for several weeks, I'm delighted with it. It's way faster than my old DeLonghis. I love that I don't have to hover over it watching to make sure it doesn't overflow because it turns itself off--and while I'm perfectly happy with the amount I'm getting without tinkering with it, it's programmable for longer shots. It's relatively quieter--noise complaints are likely from new users of espresso machines unused to their noise. It is lighter than my old machines, but the good news is that the basket fit loosens with use and a light hand on top of it solves the issue. The quibble about the basket falling from the wand seems to be more, again, about unobservant users who don't notice their design and the notch that locks the basket in place. It's also a preferable design than the wire in the DeLonghis, which would get loose and end up in our countertop compost bin when shaking out the puck. I even prefer the wetter pucks of used coffee it produces because they're way easier to scoop out of the basket than the DeLonghi's rock hard ones (even bent one of my demitasse spoons once). And, most importantly, the coffee is ABSOLUTELY FINE, even preferable to what I'd been getting from my old machines. And, hey, if it happens to have a short life, I'll just return and revise my rating and review.

Buono...squisito!
Color: Sterling Silver, Color: Sterling Silver
Arrive and packaged very well. It is lightweight...unsure if it's metal or plastic finished to look like metal...my guess is that "parts" are the latter because the knob for the froth/steam is plastic. Nonetheless, it is well made. Moreover, the price point makes it clear it can't be a premium expresso machine. I realize this doesn't sound like a great review of this product but on the contrary it is meant to say that - it is a quality machine based in the price point. I read the manual and personalized the settings for me and I have very little critique. The 2 in 1 portafilter is quality...the water dispenser "top fill" function is good; no need to remove the unit. Frother unit works well...just wish it pulled out a little more...drip tray could be wider as it's a little difficult getting a wide-mouth cup in without taking out the main tray...not a real hassle though. All in all....it's a 9.5 in my opinion. Functions are great...easy to understand and makes a great expresso, americano, latte and variable of each 👍👍 Great deal for the price!
